We are very pleased to offer for sale a lovely Roseville Pottery Freesia basket done in a rich terracotta and brown background, with the unmistakeable yellowish-ivory colored trumpet-shaped flowers fanning across the front and back of the piece. Introduced by the Roseville Pottery Company in 1945, the Freesia pattern with its stylized blossoms was highly popular and was also highly regarded in the art pottery world. This basket is marked on the bottom with the raised Roseville U.S.A., the numbers 390-7", and the artist's mark "F". It measures 7-1/2" in height, and is 8-3/4" wide, from handle tip to handle tip.
We must note that the white dot that is visible in a number of our photographs is actually light refracting off a 'mote' of clay dust that was glazed over during the manufacturing process. When viewed with the naked eye, the mote is the same color as its surroundings. What is not visible from our photographs is that the blooming freesias on one side of the basket did not receive their final coat of clear glaze and as a result have a somewhat granular texture. Aside from these variants in the manufacturing process, there are no flakes, chips, cracks or crazing to detract from the beauty of this vintage Roseville Freesia basket.
