We are offering an exquisite and very large antique Art Nouveau era figural maiden dressed in softly patinated classical robes holding a dove. Produced by the Dux Porcelain Manufactory (“Royal Dux”), our massive figurine is rendered in a lovely, soft matte glaze. Measuring 20-3/4" in height, this figurine stands on a 5-3/4" base, and has the Royal Dux applied pink clay triangle with the letter “E”, which dates its production between 1860 and 1919. True to the renowned high standards of Royal Dux products, this antique figurine features astonishing detail, from the elegant and classical draping of the maiden's garments, the artfully coiffed hair, the sculpted design of the fabrics, the weave of the basket, and even the detailed depiction of fingernails and toes.

Please examine our photos and you will marvel at the exquisite detail and excellent condition of this lovely old figurine.

BRIEF HISTORY: Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur, or Dux Porcelain Manufactory, was started in 1860 by Eduard Eichler in Duchov, Bohemia, and quickly became known for the high quality of its pottery and porcelain figures, typically referred to by the abbreviated name, "Royal Dux."

Royal Dux introduced one of the most distinctive marks to be found on porcelain: an applied triangle of pink clay. All factory-applied pink triangles–whether from the 19th, 20th or 21st century–are made from a separate piece of pink clay, applied to the base of Royal Dux white clay bodies. The two separate pieces are fused together during firing, and there is almost never a gap between the pink clay of the triangle and the white clay of the piece to which the triangle is applied. Factory triangles are all roughly the same size, about one-half inch per side and raised about one-sixteenth to one-eighth inch thick. Size can vary slightly because some original triangles were slightly deformed when damp. Appearing in all genuine factory-applied raised pink triangles, regardless of age, are the words, "Royal Dux Bohemia", impressed around an oval shape in the center of the triangle. A crosshatch, or grid-like pattern, is at the top of the oval. Even though the country of Bohemia disappeared at the end of WW I, Royal Dux Bohemia remains in the mark to this day. All factory-applied pink triangles are remarkably uniform, with sharp, clear lettering impressed to an equal depth.
