We are offering a large, elegant vase in the Zephyr Lily pattern by Roseville Pottery. The Zephyr Lily pattern is exquisitely graceful with a flared base, narrow neck and sharply angled handles. An incised swirl pattern underlays the beautiful white zephyr lilies that rise from the surface of the vase. Our vase, in the beautiful "Bermuda Blue" color, measures a sizeable 12-5/8” in height, has a 4-7/8” diameter base, and a 4-3/4” diameter flared rim. It is in perfect condition, with excellent mold detail. There are no chips, cracks, abrasions or other defects. The base of our Roseville Zephyr Lily vase displays the iconic yellow tint of the Ohio clay, and has raised marks reading “Roseville”, “USA”, and shape number 140-12.
BRIEF HISTORY: The Roseville Pottery Company created ceramic art pottery in Zanesville, Ohio, from 1892 until 1954, when it filed bankruptcy and ceased operations. The Zephyr Lily line was first introduced in 1946 and came in three distinct color themes: (1) "Bermuda Blue", which transitions from a very deep blue to a pale blue; (2) “Sienna”, which transitions from a burnt sienna to a pale orange; and (3) "Evergreen", which transitions from a very dark green to a pale light green. The zephyr lilies were painted in four colors: white, light yellow, rose, and lavender. Roseville Pottery employed an interesting consistency in its production methods – for instance, a particular shape with a specific background color – such as our 12-5/8” tall Bermuda Blue vase with two handles (140-12) - would consistently have the same color – white - for the lilies. You will not find vase 140-12 in the Bermuda Blue background with lavender or rose lilies. Of course, the green vase in 140-12 has different colored flowers from the blue vase, specifically rose and yellow flowers. You will find this consistent color pairing between the background and the flowers throughout Roseville Pottery's many lines.
