Product Description And Additional Pictures

We have found an exquisite, beautifully embellished, vintage porcelain Nippon hand-painted hair receiver decorated with roses, enamel and gold beading. Our Nippon hair receiver is a charming view into the past - an item both utilitarian (at least, at one time) - yet lovely to behold. Standing 2-1/2" high, sitting on a 2-1/4" base, and with a rim measuring 3-3/8" in diameter, this striking Nippon har receiver is a confection of pastel blue, pink and peach backgrounds, over painted with yellow and magenta roses, and finished off with magenta enamel work, gilding, and gold beading. This wonderful piece bears the green maple leaf Nippon backstamp, which dates the manufacture to the period of time between 1891 and 1928.

Imagine a time when ladies cleaned their combs and brushes, and tucked the stray hairs into an elegant receptacle such as this vintage Nippon porcelain hair receiver to use at a later time for stuffing pin cushions, or making small bundles - called ratts - to enhance a hair style! Today one tosses such things straight into the trash without a thought. This beautifully decorated Nippon piece - while a bridge to a lovelier, gentler, and more genteel time - could be placed into duty for other uses and admired for its artistry and history!
