We are offering a beautiful antique sterling silver carving set produced by Henry Birks and Sons, established in 1879. The knife and fork tines of the antique sterling silver carving set are stamped 'stainless'. Stainless steel, as you know, was invented in England and patented in 1915. Therefore it is probably safe to place this antique sterling silver carving set sometime between 1915 and 1930, although it is possible that the vintage of this carving set is as late as the 1940s. The matching handles of this lovely antique sterling silver carving set bear the 'Birks Sterling' hallmark, and are in exceptional shape -- especially for utilitarian items -- with no dents or deep scratches. The fork is 9" in length, and the carving knife is 10-3/4" inches in length: there is a 'sleeve' under the fork that permits the carver to lock the antique sterling silver fork and knife together when at rest (see our photographs).
